I only do my poos in freshwater
The BASIX protocol introduced in 2004 aimed to reduce potable water use up to 40% from a pre-BASIX home benchmark of 247 litres per person per day. The targets vary by location depending on climate and rainfall. The 40% water target covers most new residential developments in the state.
This has led the the inclusion of rain water tanks in most new constructions.
Still, to pass the targets of the water usage in the BASIX, the rainwater tank is often required to supply a garden tap and a toilet.
Over the years, some home builders have requested that they do not want tank water to flush a toilet.
One in four people in the world does not have access to safe drinking water. But would you believe some folks think it is beneath them to 💩 in fresh water?
After seeing first hand third world inhabitants showering themselves from a bucket and only being able to drink from purchased freshwater, this seems crazy (and very entitled) to me. My favourite excuse was: “We don’t want to stain the bowl”
4 star toilets are common in plumbing in NSW. A 4 star toilet has a 3.5-litre flush. Stepping up into a 5 star toilet means you have a sink over the cistern and this is not often desirable or possible. There are even incinerating toilets on the market. Every bit helps.
But please, considerer pooping in rainwater. It ‘aint gunna hurt you.
