How does this BASIX thing work?
The holy trinity of energy efficiency for NSW, the BASIX is the sum of three parts - Water, Thermal Comfort & Energy.
While they work together as a whole, for the most part you cannot add to one to subtract from the other. ie- you cannot add PV (solar power) to the ENERGY component to reduce the glazing in the THERMAL COMFORT component.
Most new dwellings require a minimum 3000L water tank that feeds the lawn and the toilets and the washing machine to acheieve complaince in the WATER component.
Most new homes with a pool, require PV (solar power) in the ENERGY component to offsett the power usage and achieve a pass.
Most new home require a NatHERS Assesment to pass the THERMAL COMFORT component. This is an assessment of the building materials, construction methods and orientation (amongst many other things) using the CHNEATH CSIRO caluclation engine.
